Currently, the UN-IOM Islamabad is seeking for National Communications Officer to fill their vacant position

JOB Description: National Communications Officer

  • Draft written communications products targeted for external audiences, ranging from social media posts, booklets, op-eds, talking points and press releases to feature-length stories, in clear and concise English.
  • Support training for IOM Pakistan staff, and implementing partners, in photography, story collection, videography, and donor visibility requirements, and build internal PI capacity.
  • Contribute to the development and strengthening of links with international and local media that promote IOM’s work and reputation.
  • Participate in UN interagency media and communication working groups to encourage information flow and community engagement activities across agencies
  • Participate in internal and external coordination meetings, and respond as appropriate and delegated to a variety of inquiries and information requests internally and externally.
  • In coordination with the Programme Support Coordinator, develop a consistent approach to donor visibility across different communication platforms.
  • In coordination with the Programme Support Coordinator, plan, organize, and facilitate communications related events such as workshops, trainings, interviews events with the media from conception to completion, including drafting budget and workplans, liaising with government to obtain support and clearance, developing ToRs for involved event-partners, managing on site logistics, directing technical services and evaluating event’s success. This includes support for the projects’ events involving media.
  • Provide information and inputs to IOM Pakistan’ Senior Management Team on communication issues in coordination with the mission’s Programme Support Unit (PSU)
  • Attend field missions to provide communications coverage of field activities and support the collection of human-interest stories, photos and video clips.
  • Review and edit communications and IEC materials prepared by IOM project units and implementing partners .
  • Translate brief communication products, including key messages, factsheets, and social media posts, from English to Urdu versa).Oversee external vendors for translation requests involving longer documents or complex products
  • Track and analyze media coverage of IOM Pakistan and assigned topics/issues; gather information from diverse sources and help assess news value and other potential impact.

  • Supervise the Senior Communications Assistant and provide overall strategic guidance for content collection and design.
  • Manage service provide hired to support communications outputs
  •  Participate in internal and external meetings as required and prepare talking points, presentation for these meetings, as required.
  • Perform such other duties as many be assigned-
